North Yorkshire Moors Railway
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a heritage steam railway running through the North York Moors National Park between Pickering and Whitby. Covering around 24 miles, the line passes through Levisham, Goathland, and Grosmont, offering a direct way to experience moorland, valleys, and traditional rural stations.
The journey includes views across open heather moorland and through Newtondale, one of the most scenic sections of the route. Goathland Station is a well-known stop, recognised for its preserved setting and connections to film and television.
Visitors can travel the full route or stop off along the way to explore walking routes, villages, and nearby attractions. Pickering serves as the main starting point, with services continuing through to Whitby on the coast, making it easy to combine moors and seaside in a single trip.
